The 11+ exam, also known as the entrance exam or the selective test, is an assessment taken by students in their final year of primary school, typically at the age of 10 or 11. The exam is used by selective schools in the UK to determine which students will be offered a place at their school.

The exam typically covers four main areas: English, Maths, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning. These subjects are designed to test a student’s ability to problem-solve, think critically and apply their knowledge to real-world situations.

English

This section will test student’s reading, comprehension and writing skills. Students will be asked to read a passage and answer questions related to the text, as well as write a short piece of creative or persuasive writing.

Maths

This section will test a student’s ability to solve mathematical problems, including arithmetic, reasoning and problem solving.

Verbal Reasoning

This section will test a student’s ability to understand and analyse written information, such as analogies, codes and vocabulary.

Non-Verbal Reasoning

This section will test a student’s ability to understand and analyse visual information, such as diagrams, patterns and sequences.

The format and content for the 11+ exam may vary depending on the school or local authority administering the test. Tuition by Teachers aims to help students to improve their knowledge and skills in the key areas covered by the exam and increase their chances of success.

Overall, the 11+ exam can be a challenging and competitive process, but with the right preparation and support, students can excel and secure a place at a selective school.
